Invisible Teeth Straightening Braces

A new smile using hidden lingual braces… only you will know.

When you want a new smile but it’s important to you that no-one knows you’re wearing braces, a lingual brace is the perfect option to consider. It is the ideal way to straighten your smile in secret. At Gosforth Dental Surgery we provide a unique orthodontic system called lingual braces. These braces differ from traditional fixed braces because they are fitted behind the teeth, making them practically invisible so nobody will be able to see them when you smile. We use CAD/CAM technology to create custom-made braces for each and every patient.

Unlike some removable aligners, lingual braces are capable of achieving complex movements and can be used to treat mild to severe crowding, spacing and teeth that don’t bite together correctly. Because treatment is always bespoke, we can focus on what is right for you. It’s possible to straighten all your teeth or just your front teeth according to your needs.

Invisible Teeth Straightening Braces in Newcastle

The benefits of lingual braces

  • Hidden behind the teeth allowing for treatment to be carried out without people noticing
  • Works in a similar way to conventional bracket braces which makes them suitable for cases which require substantial movement of the teeth
  • The brackets are small which means they’re comfortable to wear, once you get used to them
  • Design of brackets allows improved access to clean teeth in comparison to traditional braces
  • Removal is not required in order to eat and drink

Invisible lingual braces in steps

You will be required to come in to Gosforth Dental Surgery for an initial consultation. Your dentist will carry out a detailed assessment of your teeth in order to confirm that this is the best orthodontic treatment for you.

You will then be asked to come back for another appointment at our Newcastle Dental Practice. During this appointment we will take impressions, x-rays and photographs of your teeth to be sent off to the lab, where models of your teeth will be created. Not only will they make a model of the teeth in their current position, but there will also be a model displaying how they are expected to look once treatment is complete.

Once we have approved your treatment plan for lingual braces, the custom-made wires and brackets will be made. This process may take several weeks, as they are constructed individually in order to provide you with a brace that’s comfortable to wear.

The next stage is for the wires, brackets and elastics to be fitted into position. They might feel a bit strange at first, but you will get used to them within a day or two. Your dentist at our Newcastle Dental Practice will continue to see you for regular reviews to make ensure that you are heading towards a more even smile.

Frequently asked questions

All those who are eligible to have regular brace treatment will be able to have lingual braces. During your initial consultation at Gosforth Dental Surgery, you can find out if lingual braces are right for you. Your dentist will go through all your questions and together find out if it is the right brace for you. We can also explore your other options, so you’ll have all the information you need to make an informed decision.

Firstly, contact our Newcastle Dental Practice for a consultation to discuss your lingual brace options. From there your dentist will be able to determine the results you are looking for and discuss a complete treatment plan. We will take impressions of your teeth to craft your customised braces.

Yes, lingual braces are just as effective as other orthodontic treatments.

Everyone is different, so treatment times may vary slightly. However, usually treatment time using lingual braces takes between fifteen and twenty-four months. As part of our consent process at Gosforth Dental Surgery, your dentist will discuss with you how long the process might take in your case before starting the treatment.

Unlike other invisible orthodontic products, lingual braces are placed behind the teeth. This means that they are totally undetectable when smiling. We have samples of different aligner in our Newcastle Dental Practice, your dentist will show you the different types during your consultation.

No. Unfortunately there are a number of foodstuffs that you cannot eat whilst receiving lingual braces treatment. These foodstuffs include ice, hard sweets, raw vegetables and sticky foods (such as chewing gum, caramel and toffee).

Upon each check up with your dentist, the wires used for the lingual braces will be tightened. This means some discomfort might be experienced for a few days. Our patients at Gosforth Dental Surgery describe it as a feeling of slight pressure on the teeth, but this will swiftly disappear.

Because lingual braces are fixed to the inner surface of your teeth, it will be more difficult to clean than removable aligners for example. At Gosforth Dental Surgery, your dentist will provide you with a care-pack and instructions for cleaning your braces and maintaining your oral hygiene throughout treatment.

It is important that tooth decay is avoided whilst undergoing lingual brace treatment. This will mean that you will need to brush your teeth three to four times a day, rather than twice. Practicing a great level of oral hygiene will ensure that food does not get stuck in the braces, thus maintain great oral health throughout treatment.

If you’d like more information on lingual braces, or any of our orthodontic treatments, we’d be delighted to see you for a consultation at Gosforth Dental Surgery. Your dentist will go through all your questions and together find out if lingual brace is the right brace for you. We can also explore your other options, so you’ll have all the information you need to make an informed decision.
